Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first visit.

Getting Started

Click any “Book Now” button on the site — it will take you to our scheduling page where you can pick the type of visit and a time that works for you.

We are currently licensed to practice in: Maryland (MD), Virginia (VA), Georgia (GA), California (CA), Washington DC, and Pennsylvania (PA). You must be physically located in one of these states at the time of your visit — not just a resident. If you’re traveling and in one of these states, you can still be seen.

We’re considering expansion to additional states based on demand. Adding a new state typically takes 6+ months. Sign up for our waitlist and let us know your state — if there’s enough interest, we’ll prioritize that state in our expansion planning. Click here to request your state be added.

After booking, you’ll receive a link via email. At your appointment time, click the link from any device — phone, tablet, or computer. No app download required.

You will complete a brief intake form when booking (takes about 3 minutes). After your first visit, you’ll have a patient portal account where you can message us, view your visit notes and prescriptions, and book follow-up visits.

Li Health is a focused virtual practice specializing in two areas: weight loss medicine and urgent care. This focused approach allows us to provide the highest quality care in both specialties rather than trying to be everything to everyone.

We do not provide ongoing management of chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, thyroid disease, heart disease, or other long-term medical problems. For chronic condition management, continuity of care, or specialist referrals, please see your primary care physician.

One exception — short term medication bridge refills:

If you are an established patient and find yourself temporarily without access to your regular physician, we can provide a short term refill bridge for certain chronic condition medications to ensure you are not left without essential medications. This is a one time or limited courtesy — not a replacement for ongoing care with your primary doctor.

What we do see:

🔹 Weight loss medicine — GLP-1 management, medication evaluation, obesity treatment, metabolic health

🔹 Urgent care — acute illnesses, infections, minor injuries, medication questions, short-term concerns

🔹 Short term medication bridge refills — for established patients temporarily without access to their regular physician

If you are unsure whether your concern falls within our scope of practice, feel free to send us a message and we will let you know right away.

Lab work is an important part of your care at Li Health — especially for weight loss medicine and GLP-1 management, where we monitor your metabolic health, kidney function, thyroid, and other key markers before and during treatment.

You may get your blood work done at any lab of your choice. However we recommend Labcorp or Quest Diagnostics as they allow us to access your results electronically — making your care faster and more seamless without you having to track down and upload records yourself.

When will labs be ordered?

  • Before starting GLP-1 or weight loss medication — to establish your baseline and confirm you are a safe candidate
  • Periodically during treatment — to monitor your response and catch anything early
  • As clinically indicated based on your individual health history

We will provide you with a lab order at the appropriate time during your visit. You simply take it to your nearest Labcorp or Quest location — no appointment needed at most locations.

Insurance & Payment

We are a cash-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. However, we provide a Superbill (detailed medical receipt with diagnosis codes) that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement varies by insurance plan and individual benefits. Some plans reimburse a portion of out-of-network telehealth costs; others do not

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, AmEx, Discover), HSA cards, and FSA cards. Payment is collected at the time of booking.

Medication costs are separate from visit costs and depend on the medication, your pharmacy, and your insurance. Many generic medications cost $10–30/month. GLP-1 medications vary widely — some insurances cover them, while others don’t. Li Health will discuss your options during the visit and help you find the most affordable path.

Li Health operates as a cash-pay practice — meaning our appointment fees are not billed to insurance. This allows us to keep our focus entirely on your care rather than navigating insurance restrictions, prior authorizations, and billing delays.

However insurance can still work in your favor in several ways:

What insurance may cover:

🔹 Lab work — If we order blood work through Labcorp or Quest, you can submit it to your insurance. Many plans cover routine labs fully or with a small copay.

🔹 Prescriptions — GLP-1 medications and other prescriptions we write can be submitted to your pharmacy benefit. Coverage varies widely by plan — some insurance plans cover GLP-1 medications for obesity with prior authorization, while others do not. We will do our best to prescribe in a way that maximizes your coverage options.

🔹 HSA and FSA — Our appointment fees may be eligible for reimbursement through your Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account. We recommend checking with your HSA or FSA administrator to confirm.

What is not covered by insurance:

🔹 Li Health appointment fees — these are paid directly at the time of booking.

If you have questions about your specific coverage, we recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card before your appointment.

Prescriptions & Medications

No. Li Health does not prescribe any DEA-scheduled controlled substances. This includes: opioid pain medications (hydrocodone, oxycodone, tramadol), benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, Ativan), ADHD stimulant medications (Adderall, Ritalin, Vyvanse), sleep medications (Ambien, Lunesta), muscle relaxants (Soma/carisoprodol), or any other Schedule II–V controlled medications. Please see your primary care physician in person if you need these.

Yes. Li Health has a board-certified Obesity Medicine physician and can evaluate you for and prescribe GLP-1 receptor agonists (semaglutide, tirzepatide, and others) when clinically appropriate. These are not controlled substances. Li Health will review your medical history, current health status, and goals before prescribing.

Yes, for non-controlled medications. For refills of chronic condition medications (blood pressure, thyroid, cholesterol, etc.), Li Health may need to review your records from your previous provider and/or recent labs to ensure safe, continuous care. Please have that information ready.

Any pharmacy you choose — CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, local independent pharmacy, or mail-order pharmacies like Express Scripts or CostPlus Drugs. Just let us know at the time of your visit.

Weight Loss Medicine

FDA-approved criteria for GLP-1 weight loss medications include BMI ≥ 30, OR BMI ≥ 27 with at least one weight-related medical condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or sleep apnea. Note: Li Health does not provide ongoing diabetes management — for type 2 diabetes care, please see your primary care or endocrinologist.

In clinical trials, semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Zepbound) showed average weight loss of approximately 15–22% of starting body weight at the highest doses, when combined with lifestyle changes. Real-world results vary widely — some patients lose more, some lose less, and a portion don’t respond significantly. Li Health will help you set realistic, personalized goals based on your full health picture.
